(Greek, sprouting leaf). Uranu Zdcew. A small genus of succulent plants in the same order with stonecrops, houseleeks and Cotyledon. The only species in cult. is a rapid-growing window-plant, and, like the Begonias, a familiar example of plants that are propagated by leaf-cuttings.
It is hardly a decorative plant, but is very odd and interesting. It is only necessary to lay the leaves on moist sand or moss, and at the indentations new plants will appear after a time (see Fig. 274). It is even possible to pin leaves on the wall, and without water new plants will come. Useful in botanical demonstrations.
