Lvs. more elongated, not depressed: scape tall and stout; umbel very many-fld.; corolla usually rose-purple, with yellow base and some dark velvety spots next the stamens, these very short and broad, purple. Dry hills of southern Calif.—Most beautiful species; winter-blooming like the foregoing, but not propagating by root-metamorphosis.

AA. bus. and scapes from a horizontal rootstock, this rooting from beneath. Far northwestern species.
